Through extensive dialogue with key community and government stakeholders and founder James Kofi Annans’ own childhood experiences, Challenging Heights works to promote children’s rights. Challenging Heights has developed three core programs: Rescue & recovery, prevention and advocacy. These programs deliver social justice interventions to children, women and underserved communities in the coastal and farming communities of Ghana.
In 2022 Challenging Heights opened the Max Stenbeck Vocational Training Centre, a vocational training center for young women and girls aged 15-25 years. The main programs are media, fashion design and beauty therapy. The center is specifically for students who are from single-headed households or are survivors of trauma such as trafficking or sexual violence. The ultimate purpose is to restore dignity, reduce gender inequality and for graduates to achieve financial security and independence. The centre also positively contributes to the socioeconomic development of neighbouring communities.
